Why did you select CHASS?

I was very interested in its electives about people, cultures and international relations. My courses have offered me the opportunity to see things from vastly different perspectives. I have also found many people more than willing to help – both faculty and other students.

What has been your favorite course?

History of the Modern Middle East with Dr. Khater. It is interesting and relevant material, although it is quite reading-intensive. However, Dr. Khater pointed out a more analytical approach to reading, which was very valuable, and which I have used in other classes.

What do you hope to gain by studying abroad?

I think it will be a great way to meet new people and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. It will be essential for practicing social skills and being culturally aware. Finally, it will help me prepare for a career in international politics.

What advice would you give incoming students?

Proper time management! You have to stay on top of your academics, so don’t procrastinate. Also, take advantage of extracurriculars. Remember that all new students are in the same boat as you, and that it’s easy to get involved.
