Alums Receive Prestigious Awards
Alum Receives Florence Steiner Award
Last November, Alum Ken Stewart received the Florence Steiner Award for Leadership in Education (K-12) during the Southern Conference on Language Teaching in San Antonio, Texas. Ken completed his MA in Spanish in 2007 at NC State and currently teaches at Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, NC.
Alumna Wins Oustanding Doctoral Research Award
Also, Dr. Stephany Brett Dunstan (B.A. Spanish ’06; M.A. English – Linguistics ’08) recently received the 2014 Emerald/HETL Education Outstanding Doctoral Research Award from Emerald Group Publishing for her dissertation on “The Influence of Speaking a Dialect of Appalachian English on the College Experience.”
Stephany currently serves as NC State’s assistant director in the Office of Assessment, in which she continues her research on how linguistics affects students’ academic and social experiences at NC State.
