FL&L TAs among Recognized by the NC State Graduate Student Association

Foreign Languages and Literatures Graduate Teaching Assistants Lindsey Chandler and Diana Dang were among several NC State graduate students recognized for their Excellence in Classroom Teaching by the NC State Graduate Student Association, during a ceremony celebrated last March 21. Foreign Language Educator Wins Graduate Student Association Award

Foreign Languages and Literatures Karen Tharrington is among the recipients of the 2016 NC State Graduate Student Association Award for Conferences. The GSA Award for Conferences is a highly competitive award that is intended to cover the entire cost of attending a conference (up to $1,500) for NC State graduate students.

Hispanic Linguistics Releases New Videos Highlighting Spanish-Language Identity and Maintenance in North Carolina

The Hispanic Linguistics program, in collaboration with the North Carolina Language and Life Project, recently released two new videos that highlight Spanish-language identity and maintenance in the Tar Heel state, featuring Foreign Languages and Literatures professors Drs. Jim Michnowicz and Rebecca Ronquest, as well as several graduate students.

Graduate Student Alex Hyler Receives Sigma Delta Pi Grant

Alex Hyler, Graduate Teaching Assistant and Master’s in foreign languages and literatures student, recently received the Sigma Delta Pi Graduate Research Grant. The grant is helping to fund her research in the Yucatan this summer alongside Dr. Jim Michnowicz for her MA research project. There, she will be conducting 12 sociolinguistic interviews in Merida, Yucatan with young (19-20 year-old) monolinguals (Spanish speaking only) and bilinguals (May and Spanish speaking).
