Opening Doors for Minorities in the NC Legal Community

Drawing from her own past, alumna Sharita Whitaker (B.A. Communication, summa cum laude 2007) works to open doors for minorities in North Carolina’s legal community. Whitaker, the eldest of 12 children, was the college’s first recipient of the Rebecca and Ruth C. Leonard Scholarship. Since graduating at the top of NC Central’s School of Law, she has built a successful career as an attorney with Smith Anderson. She also chairs the NC Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee, through which she’s determined to introduce African American, Latino, Asian and other minority students to the legal profession and show them how they can make a difference.
