Foreign Language Educator Wins Graduate Student Association Award

Foreign Languages and Literatures Karen Tharrington is among the recipients of the 2016 NC State Graduate Student Association Award for Conferences. The GSA Award for Conferences is a highly competitive award that is intended to cover the entire cost of attending a conference (up to $1,500) for NC State graduate students.

Karen is coordinator for the Foreign Language Education concentration as well as doctoral Candidate in the NC State TELS Learning, Design, and Technology program under the direction of Dr. Kevin Oliver. Her research centers on Foreign Language pre-service teacher preparation and professional learning networks; specifically, to what extent pre-service teachers value connecting to a virtual community on Twitter, and how the experience shapes their perspectives on teaching practices. According to the award website, after completing her PhD she plans to continue work in the Teacher Education field.
