More than 20 faculty and graduate students from the Hispanic linguistics program recently attended the Spanish Linguistics in North Carolina (SLINKI) and Spanish Linguistics in the Southeast (SLISE) conference, hosted by East Carolina University.

Hispanic linguistics faculty, graduate students and alumni show their Wolfpack pride at the conference

Originally founded at NC State in 2011, the conference provides a space for researchers across the region to share their work and build collaborations. This year’s event featured presentations from 14 WLC faculty and graduate students, covering topics such as dialect variation, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, and language contact.

Jim Michnowicz, Head of World Languages & Cultures and Professor of Hispanic linguistics, shared his enthusiasm: “I couldn’t be more proud. Our graduate students are gaining real-world experience through their research. They learn important skills in data management and analytics, communicating results in a clear manner, and disseminating findings through technical communications. Not to mention that they are an amazing group and keep the faculty inspired every single day”.

The strong presence of NC State faculty, students, and alumni highlights the university’s ongoing impact in the field of Hispanic linguistics across the region and beyond.
