Think and Do

Through research, publications and community engagement, learning in our department isn’t limited to the classroom. Our faculty and students work together to inspire debate, solve problems and enrich communities. Studying in Foreign Languages and Literatures doesn’t just mean learning about a culture — it means taking part.

Research

Our world-leading faculty engage in world-changing research. Research in Foreign Languages and Literatures helps us understand how people around the world interact, migrate and express themselves. By using creative and cutting-edge techniques, our faculty are able to stay at the forefront of a constantly-evolving field.

Community Involvement

Our students are out in the field, using and building language and communication skills. We have clubs and organizations for several languages and interests that match students with social and volunteer opportunities around Raleigh.

Our department also coordinates Spanish professional certificates available to anyone in the community — not just NC State students.
