WLC Spanish Education Major Completes TEFL Minor Requirement Abroad
WLC student Hannah Sawulski completed WL 440 while abroad in Sevilla, Spain
Spanish Ed major and TEFL minor student Hannah Sawulski has been studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain for the past two months with COWA (Connecting Other Worlds Abroad). She is completing her TEFL practicum in Sevilla. Through an inventive program for TEFL minor completion, Hannah is able to take her WL 440 course online through NCSU and simultaneously observe high school English classes, support students, and even lead a few classes! This experience is allowing her to practice teaching English through a different model of English instruction, while also gaining perspective about what it might be like to live and teach abroad. Hannah says, “I highly recommend this program to anyone completing the TEFL minor who is also hoping to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. With the support of COWA staff, TEFL coordinator Jennifer Despain, and my amazing mentor teacher, this practicum has been a stress-free and formative experience as I learn about what it means to teach English as a foreign language.”
